Our Story

My name is Ralston Francis, Co owner of Flavors MV. In the summer of 2011, I came to Martha’s Vineyard to visit Mavis, my then girlfriend. I fell in love with the island and when I was offered an opportunity to work at the Main Street Diner I could not say no. The following year I was head chef and managing the daily operations of the restaurant. After a few years, the owners decided it was time to sell, another opportunity that I could not pass on. So, in November of 2015 I purchased the Edgartown Diner, and this came with its own challenges. To unwind from the long stressful days, I would often visit the beach or go clubbing. It was at one of these night-outs that I met Sonny, at the Island House and we became friends. In the summer of 2020 Sony approached me with an offer to co-own and operate the Island House. We were in the middle of a pandemic and things were uncertain, so I had to give this one some thought. However, I soon started envisioning the atmosphere that we could create there and the dishes that we could serve. Before long I was taking Sonny up on his offer. Here we are today, offering you great American cuisine with a southern twist and a vast drink menu in a welcoming and friendly environment.

In the Kitchen

Our kitchen consists of a variety of meals to satisfy different appetite needs. With a Southern twist accompanied by American Cuisines, we aim to serve the community in the best way possible. My name is Ralston Francis and I manage the kitchen here at Flavors MV. My love for culinary started at a very early age in my mother’s kitchen in Clarendon, Jamaica. After graduating high school, it was my mother’s early training and guidance that motivated me to attend the Portmore Community College that laid the groundwork for what would be a very fulfilling career thus far. The Portmore Community College provided me with the opportunity to work and travel to the United States. It was on one of those work and travel experiences that I met my wife, Mavis. Upon graduating from the Portmore Community College I attended the Southern New Hampshire University where I garnered several leadership and management skills. These skills led to an internship at the Marriot International Hotel and Restaurants in Atlanta. It was in this very fast paced, high stressed environment that I realized this is what I was born to do.
